UNDERSTANDING

Vs 19. When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.

Def. of Understand = comprehend

The path – hard pack soil……

Beat down by traffic…

1 Corinthians 3:19-20

18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight.

Ephesians 4:17-18. , 4:20

17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.

20 That, however, is not the way of life you learned 21 when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.

1 Corinthians 1:21

12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.[c] 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

Colossians 2:3

My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.

– LACK OF ROOT DEPTH

20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When TROUBLE OR PERSECUTION comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.

Roots don’t go deep – superficial knowledge

The Bible teaches : ( beginning at Genesis) that man brought death

– WEALTH AND WORRIES

22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.

Hear … ✔️

Understands … ✔️

But still the WORRIES and deceit of WEALTH

Matt 19

16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

…..22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

Polluted soil ! Too much competing for priority…..

GROWTH

23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who HEARS the word AND UNDERSTANDS it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown
