Matthew 7:1-6 Judging
Did Jesus judge other while on this earth?
Judging – better be correct, fair, expect identical in return
Matt 7
7 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
( Luke 6:36-38 )
Context – Jesus shockingly confronting since the start of the BEATITUDES.
Speaking to a people living in daily expectation of judgement of enemies.
Challenging thought – judge not?!
Matthew 7
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Get illustrations –
Sawdust = dust, splinter
Log/beam = joist, rafter
We don’t see well ( BLIND) w/ log in our eye.

6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
Hogs & Dogs: filthy, trash prowling, savage and threatening. Place of demons,
= application of law and gospel , judgement and mercy, unrepentance and repentance.
Matt 10:(1-15) 13-15 leave your peace vs. shake dust
Not Judging and approving are not the same… ( woman found in adultery Loved, not approved )
Does not mean: to be endlessly uncritical.
Does mean : deal with self first.
Lord’s Supper – examine himself.

CONCLUSION:
Once you have been fully transformed by grace, only then you are able to measure out correctly mercy A N D justice.
According to the teaching of some rabbis in Jesus’ time, God had two measures that He used to judge people. One was a measureof justiceand the other was a measureof mercy.Whichever measureyou want God to use with you, you should use that same measurewith others.
